RAILWAY STREET

This project for a previous client takes a triangular lot with a 6m cross fall and inserts two contemporary homes. The southern most house employs a west facing battened deck off the living room to moderate the intense afternoon sun whilst still providing orientation to the Indian Ocean. Large north facing windows ensure warmth during the winter months and slender south facing louvre windows efficiently ventilate the living spaces.

The northern house is more restricted in program and uses a central courtyard to inject northern light and warmth into the living spaces and master bedroom. A 5kw solar array per house and underground rain water tanks will compliment the passive solar design strategies used.
